Global Renewables Watch is a global temporal dataset derived from high-resolution satellite imagery analysis, covering commercial utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) farms and onshore wind turbines from Q4 2017 to Q2 2024. Developed by the Microsoft AI for Good Research Lab, this dataset employs deep learning models to identify renewable energy facilities from satellite images, and estimates their construction dates and prior land use types. In total, the dataset contains 375,197 wind turbines and 86,410 solar photovoltaic installations. It can be used to evaluate and advance effective strategies for renewable energy deployment, holding invaluable value for policymakers, researchers and stakeholders.
