The Oregon Shelf Cabled Benthic Experiment Package (BEP) is located on the Continental Shelf, at approximately 80 meters water depth. By sampling in this area, the OOI seeks to gain better insight into upwelling dynamics of this system, including monitoring changes in productivity and hypoxia. The Oregon Shelf Cabled BEP is housed in a trawl-resistant yellow frame and connects to an electro-optical cable that powers its instruments and transmits data back to shore. It is also located near the base of an uncabled surface mooring and surface-piercing profiler mooring that provide complementary water column data, allowing for a full picture of shelf dynamics.
