The strain SgZ-8T is capable of reducing humus at thermophilic temperature. It was isolated from a high-temperature compost, PR China. Strain SgZ-8T was facultatively anaerobic, Gram-staining positive, oxidase-negative and catalase-positive. Cells were non-motile, non-flagellated, oval-shaped and approximately 0.7–0.8 mm wide and 1.0–1.2 mm long. The DNA G+C content of the type strain is 49.3 mol%.
