Brucella in Wild Boar Bavaria. Seroprevalence and Genome Analysis of Brucella in Wild Boars (Sus scrofa) in Bavaria, Germany, 2019 to 2021

Wild boars (Sus scrofa) represent a potential reservoir for brucellosis as they may have contact to livestock (swine farms) and humans (especially hunters). To determine the prevalence of brucellosis in the wild boar population in Bavaria (Germany), a three-year monitoring program was conducted including serology, direct detection of the pathogen and genome analyzing. Additionally, the risk of introducing brucellosis in livestock farms or the zoonotic risk for some sectors (hunters) was estimated.
