This dataset depicts polygons of potential acid sulfate soils identified as part of the Norfolk Island Water Resource Assessment (NIWRA). Areas were mapped due to the importance to groundwater recharge, surface water storage and managed aquifer recharge. These soils may either contain acidity or have the potential to form acid in amounts that have impacts on water quality, the environment (wetlands and creeks) and infrastructure. Further acid sulfate soil information can be found in the NIWRA technical report (Petheram et al., 2020) and described in Appendix D of the NIWRA technical report.
