Herding of sheep and cattle using virtual fencing technology

Automated virtual fencing devices and manual collars were used on cattle and sheep respectively to assess the use of virtual fencing technology (audio and electrical cues) to move animals from one end of a small paddock to another. These data report on the GPS movement patterns during the trials and the audio and electrical cues the animals received. \nLineage: Individual cattle within 5 different groups were fitted with virtual fencing devices and trialled with different configurations of virtual fences for moving them from one end of an experimental paddock to another. Each group was tested separately with two replicates per group. All animals were first trained to learn the association between the device's audio and electrical cues. Small groups of sheep were trained with manual collars and herded across a paddock using a fence that shifted behind them.
