HvSWEET11b transports both sugar and cytokinin in the developing barley grain

Barley plants harbouring a loss-of-function mutation of HvSWEET11b are unable to set viable grains, while the distribution of sucrose and cytokinin in developing grains set by plants in which the gene was knocked down is altered. The transcriptomic analysis performed here shows the effects of the HvSWEET11b knock-down during seed development and highlights the control that HvSWEET11b exerts over grain's biochemistry and transcriptome.
