The deep and inner part of the peridotite massif was hardly accessible for direct observations. The presence of an abandoned chromic mine tunnel allowed to observe the deep peridotite structure and the groundwater circulation in situ. Moreover, this environment can have a high potential of microbial communities rarely characterized. This was a unique and exceptional opportunity to observe the internal functioning of a peridotite massif and microbial ecosystem related to it.
