Sub-Index: Ecosystem Services

The ecosystem services sub-index captured two key ecosystem services that forests provide – (1) the provisioning of clean drinking water, and (2) carbon storage. This sub-index identifies areas where wildfire may negatively impact the capacity of forests to provide these services. Values in this layer represent 10 quantiles (1 being lowest value for the provisioning of ecosystem services, 10 being the highest), which were scaled relative to values within each U.S. Forest Service region.For full details, please see: Lacey LM, Suraci JP, Littlefield CE, Busse BS, Dickson BG. 2024.
