Since the early 1970s the European Commission´s Standard & Special Eurobarometer are regularly monitoring the public opinion in the European Union member countries. Principal investigators are the Directorate-General Communication and on occasion other departments of the European Commission or the European Parliament. Over time, candidate and accession countries were included in the Standard Eurobarometer Series. Selected questions or modules may not have been surveyed in each sample. Please consult the basic questionnaire for more information on country filter instructions or other questionnaire routing filters. In this study the following modules are included: 1. European Union Humanitarian Aid (ECHO), 2. Domestic violence against women, 3. Public health: mental well-being.<br>Topics: 1. European Union Humanitarian Aid (ECHO): knowledge of organizations that provide or finance humanitarian aid; knowledge of the funding of humanitarian aid activities of the EU in countries outside the European Union and importance of this support; self-rated knowledge about the humanitarian aid activities of the EU and importance of this support; humanitarian aid is more efficient if provided by each Member State separately versus by the EU. 2. Domestic violence against women: knowledge about violence against women and source of information; assessment of the spread of domestic violence against women in the own country; assessment of the intensity of psychological, physical and sexual violence against women and the threats of violence and restricted freedom; Assessment of the causes of domestic violence against women: alcoholism, drug addiction, unemployment, poverty, social exclusion, the media, religious beliefs, low education level, own experiences of violence, power distribution between sexes, male perspective on women, provocative behavior of women, genetic predisposition; own acceptance of violence against women; competent organizations to to help women affected by domestic violence: the government, the police, solicitors, medical or social services, religious organizations, charitable or voluntary organizations, the media, family and friends; knowledge of special laws regarding the prevention of domestic violence against women, social and legal support for victims, punishment and rehabilitation of perpetrators; usefulness of methods to combat domestic violence against women: help and consultancy services including a free- phone number, information on the Internet, information leaflets, tougher laws, proper enforcement of existing laws, laws to prevent sexual discrimination, teaching police officers about women’s rights, campaigns to raise public awareness, punishment of perpetrators, rehabilitation of perpetrators, teaching young people to mutual respect; awareness of policies and practices of the EU to combat domestic violence against women; approval to the participation of the EU in the fight against domestic violence; knowledge of affected women and perpetrators in the social environment. 3. Public health / mental well-being: problems in day-to-day life during the past four weeks due to physical health problems or an emotional problem; mental well-being in the past four weeks; number of days the respondent was absent from work (apart for holidays); seek for help from a professional because of a psychological or emotional problem and kind of professional; use of antidepressants in the last 12 months and reason for taking antidepressants; job security is under threat; current job adequately reflects the education; received respect and recognition at work; difficulties to talk to someone with significant mental health problem. Demography: nationality; age; marital status and family situation; age at end of education; sex; occupation; type of community; household composition and household size; own a mobile phone and fixed (landline) phone; possession of durable goods (entertainment electronics, internet connection, possession of a car, a flat/a house have finished paying for or still paying for); financial difficulties during the last year; self-rated social position (scale); Internet use (at home, at work, at school). Also encoded was: date of interview; interview; persons present during the interview; willingness to cooperate; interview language; city size; region; country.
