Sall4 guides p53-mediated enhancer interference upon DNA damage in mouse embryonic stem cells

The tumor suppressor p53 is a well-recognized transcription factor that directly regulates transcriptional activation through sequence-specific DNA binding. However, whether p53 functions as a direct transcriptional repressor has long been debatable. Here, we conducted RNA-seq and chromatin-immunoprecipitation followed by deep sequencing (ChIP-seq) for p53 and two histone modifications (H3K4me3 and H3K27ac) in mouse embryonic stem cells treated with or without Adriamycin to identify enhancer-targeting of p53 for transcriptional repression.
