Canadian University Affiliation and Federation Agreements

Collection of Canadian University Federation and Affiliation agreement. Gathered as part of SSHRC Insight Development Grant. Part of project rationale: The concepts of university federation and affiliation in Canada are not well understood, even within academic environments. There is a general notion that smaller institutions, when they federate or affiliate with a larger university, hold in abeyance any secular degree-granting privileges they may have previously exercised under their respective provincial charters. Distinctions between federation and affiliation are less clearly appreciated, however, and the degree of autonomy each entails are not uniform between universities in the same province, and even less so across provincial boundaries.
