Development of hatchery and field culture methods for the Atlantic sea scallop, Placopecten magellanicus

Fishermen involved in the traditional fishery for sea scallops face increasingly limited harvests and economic hardship. The application of aquaculture techniques for stock enhancement and/or private aquaculture operations may well provide the only viable option for an industry dependent on ever dwindling natural stocks. The objective of this project was to adapt and transfer hatchery and field culture of bay scallops to the aquaculture of the Atlantic sea scallop. Grant no. NA56FK0099
