Silk properties and overwinter survival in gregarious butterfly larvae

We used comparative metabarcoding analyses to compare bacterial community composition of the silk-associated microbiota from both wild-collected and laboratory-reared families of the Glanville fritillary butterfly, which survived or died in the field. Although the microbial communities assessed varied across families, they did not correlate with over-winter survival in the field.
