Two-dimentional Mode-II delamination experiments on glass-fiber composite laminates

The dataset shows the results for two-dimensional (2D) Mode-II delamination experiments on glass-fiber/epoxy composite laminates. The full experimental program contains a series of experiments with 9 different set-up/specimen combinations, nembered 1 - 9, exhibiting the whole development process of the experimental designs towards the final matrix (Set-up #9), which has been published in a journal paper [Wang C., Vassilopoulos AP, Keller T. Experimental investigation of two-dimensional Mode-II delamination in composite laminates. Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing. 2023, 173:107666]. These experiments included circular specimens, with the edge either simply supported by a ring or semi-clamped by two ring frames (allow free sliding of the specimen edge), then loaded transversely above the centrally embedded circular pre-crack to promote symmetric (circular) crack propagation. The description of each set-up can be found in the file "2D_Experiments_description.xlsx". All 2D specimens failed in bending at the bottom center. During crack propagation, the loads in the 2D specimens continued to increase, showing certain pseudo-ductility. The results can be compared with standardized one-dimensional (1D) tests, e.g. End-loaded Split (ELS) tests, to reveal different fracture behavior under 2D conditions. The 2D cohesive relationships can be derived by numerical fitting of the data.
