Epigenetic silencing by gut commensal fungus Mucor racemosus alleviates colitis and colon tumorigenesis

Intestinal fungal dysbiosis has detrimental effects on host immunity, and has been observed in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, the potential roles and mechanisms by which commensal fungi exert prophylaxis and treatment of IBD remain poorly defined. Here, we characterized the epigenetic modulation mediated by commensal gut fungus Mucor racemosus for anti-inflammatory and anti-neoplastic effects in experimental colitis and colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CRC).
