Bacillus inaquosorum genome sequencing

Infections with Bacillus subtilis and its closest relatives are quite rare. Most previous reports were of infections in immunocompromised patients and associated with a likely oral route of acquisition. These include both fermented food products, in the case of B. subtilis var. natto, or from probiotics containing B. subtilis strains. Here, we report two patients with bacteremia associated with the same strain of B. inaquosorum, a close relative of B. subtilis. Based on their clinical history, an injectional route of infection is considered likely.
