This product explicitly resolves convective processes (i.e., without employing convective parameterization schemes) to directly simulate the evolution of cloud microphysics and the mechanisms of precipitation formation, providing forecasts of cloud and precipitation structures with high spatiotemporal resolution for the 0–72 hour future period. It is a core technical product that supports nowcasting, severe convective weather defense, and weather modification operations.
