Medication burden in people living with cystic fibrosis: a focus on mental health and opportunities for change

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common life-limiting genetic disorder in people of European descent, affecting nearly 4,000 people in Australia and 160,000 worldwide. Despite treatment advances extending life expectancy, living with CF remains challenging due to complex medication regimens. This thesis investigated the high prevalence of depression and anxiety in people with CF (PwCF) and their caregivers, as well as the use of psychotropic medications. It also explored the potential to reduce medication burden through new modulator therapies and stopping unnecessary medications. The findings provide insights for reducing treatment burden and improving quality of life for PwCF.
