The guide describes items from the Medical History Museum's collection at the University of Melbourne. The Museum, established in 1967, houses a research collection which documents the history of the University of Melbourne medical school from the mid 19th century, its teaching hospitals and achievements of its graduates from the 1860s to the present day and, more broadly, the history of medical practice in Victoria. The collection consists of over 4000 items which include objects, photographs, archives and ephemera.

This guide includes 66 series or groupings of records. Descriptions include information on the history of the object, material and finishes, and any external references made to the item. The guide also features digital images of a large number of items from the collection.
