This is one of a number of studies of Australians commissioned by the United States International Communications Agency. Topics in this survey included the importance of political ties between Australia and other countries; Australia's role in South East Asia; Australia's relationship with other countries, in particular the U.S.; the strongest country in the world; potential military and security threats to Australia; U.S. roles in Asia; ANZUS treaty; Australia's spending on national defence; influence of current events in Vietnam and Cambodia on Australia's relationships with other countries; economic aid to Vietnam and Cambodia by Australia; the amount and effect of foreign investment in Australia by other countries; the amount and effect of trade between Australia and other countries; effect of trade policies of other countries on their trade relationship with Australia. Background variables include age, country of origin, marital status, education, employment status, income, occupation, family size, sex, political affiliation and breadwinner's occupation.
