Iron drives dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium

Denitrification converts bioavailable nitrogen into relatively non bioavaialble nitrogen gas. A competing process dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA) recycles nitrogen in a bioavailable form. This PhD project investigated the role of Fe(II) in controlling the partitioning of these nitrogen cycling processes including the isolation of bacteria that mediate DNRA stimulated by the presence of Fe(II)
