资源简介:
This dissertation explores the mechanisms of informal social control and socialisation of children among African Australian migrants. Specifically, it investigates how humanitarian migrants who settle in an unfamiliar environment without traditional sources of child-rearing support, navigate the challenges they encounter. Drawing on ethnographic data from interactions with African Australian parents and young people in their homes and in the community, the dissertation calls for a whole-of-community approach to the socialisation and informal social control of children among migrants from Africa, combining and using knowledge derived from the Western concept of collective efficacy and the African philosophy of Ubuntu.
