Wright: Smithsonian Institution Scholarly Press. https://doi.org/10.5479/si.26880694We calculated the number of pollen grains that were collected in a pollen trap per cm<sup>2</sup>. We used the following procedure: Our funnel pollen trap has a 9.5 cm diameter (area 70.88 cm<sup>2</sup>) and it is replaced once a year. During the processing of the content of the pollen trap, we add a ®Lycopodium tablet (Batch 938934) that contains a known number of <i>Lycopodium </i>spores (10,700). Then, we count both the total number of grains and the number of <i>Lycopodium </i>spores in the palynological slide that is obtained at the end of the processing. As we know the initial total number of <i>Lycopodium </i>spores (10,700) and the area of the trap (70.88 cm<sup>2</sup>), we use cross multiplication to calculate the total number of grains in the pollen trap and the grains per cm<sup>2</sup> per year.<br>The data are provided in the form of both an Excel file and a tab-delimited text file.Citation for dataset:Moreno, J.
