DLR Planetary Stereo, Solid-State LiDAR, Inertial (S3LI) dataset
The DLR Planetary Stereo, Solid-State LiDAR, Inertial (S3LI) dataset was developed by the German Aerospace Center (DLR). It was collected on Italy's Mount Etna and simulates the extreme environments of the Moon and Mars. The dataset comprises 7 sequences, covering a total travel distance of over 4 kilometers, and was primarily recorded using a handheld sensor suite, making it applicable for the deployment of space rovers. This dataset aims to serve as a tool to uncover the environmental constraints of existing SLAM systems in non-widely accessible datasets, and to inspire the development of novel localization and mapping approaches that leverage the complementary capabilities of the included sensors. The application domains of this dataset include autonomous driving, automated construction, and agriculture, and it is designed to tackle the challenges of localization and mapping in highly unstructured environments.
