Outward FDI, Absorptive Research Capacity and Domestic Technological Innovation: Implications for National and Regional Policy

We utilize a panel of 31 Chinese provinces covering the time period 2006 to 2019, including all the above variables, sourced principally from the China Statistical Yearbook with additional secondary data from the OECD others as we describe in Table 1. We add in the controls such as employment, government investment, output, and infrastructure. We normalize all prices to 2006 international US dollars. Prior to 2006 the data for some provinces, such as Xinjiang and Tibet, is somewhat limited and so is not included.
