Vaginal microbiome as a tool for prediction of chorioamnionitis in preterm labor

Intra-amniotic infection is a major cause of preterm birth that has significant medium- or long-term effects on the infant even after birth. The prenatal diagnostic method was reported by analyzing the bacterial composition of amniotic fluid in cases with chorioamnionitis (CAM) and identifying the 11 phlogogenic bacterial species. The present study aimed to determine whether analyzing the vaginal bacterial flora can evaluate the risk of CAM. Analysis of the vaginal bacterial flora shows the possibility of intra-amniotic infection having a poor prognosis.
