The African Swine Fever (ASF) Project aims to address the severe threat posed by the African swine fever virus (ASFV) to pig populations and livelihoods, especially in developing countries like Nigeria. ASFV is a highly contagious viral hemorrhagic disease with significant socioeconomic impacts. This study intends to sequence and characterize ASFV responsible for the recent outbreaks in Nigeria at the genomic level. Also, the project intends to understand the diversity and evolutionary relationship between these outbreak samples and others recorded globally. Finally, the project is interested in exploring how this information can be leveraged for policy and translation measures.
