Cognitive Behavioral Therapy after Endometriosis Surgery

The aim of this study was to combine endometriosis surgery with cognitive behavioral therapy to decrease chronic pain and improve health related quality of life.

In this randomized controlled multicenter trial, 100 patients were included undergoing surgery for endometriosis related chronic pain. Participants were equally randomized between endometriosis surgery or endometriosis surgery and cognitive behavioral therapy. Questionnaires evaluated health related quality of life, pain intensity, catastrophizing, anxiety, fatigue and perceived stress at baseline (T0), 2 (T1) and 16 (T2) weeks post-intervention. Hair cortisol levels in scalp hair were analyzed as another measure for chronic stress.
