For intestinal histology, segments of the jejunum and cecum were gently rinsed three times with ice-cold saline, sheared into 1 cm segments, and then fixed in a 4 paraformaldehyde solution. Additionally, jejunal and cecal samples were collected in sterile sampling tubes and stored at -80 for subsequent analysis
