Data from: Effects of variability in the amount and dispersion of within-plant herbivory on resistance- and tolerance-related responses in wild cotton. This dataset contains the raw data from a study investigating how wild cotton plants (Gossypium hirsutum) respond to different patterns of herbivory. We manipulated both the total amount and the spatial dispersion of damage on plants to measure the effects on resistance-related traits (extrafloral nectar, phenolic compounds) and tolerance (regrowth capacity). The repository contains three data files and one R script. A full description of all variables, units, and treatment codes can be found in the readme.md file. exp1_data_r.csv: Raw data for extrafloral nectar (EFN) volume (microliters) and sugar amount (micrograms). Fenoles.csv: Raw data for total phenolic compound concentrations (mg/g dry weight) in dry weight leaf tissue. growth_data_lmm.csv: Raw data on plant regrowth total dry weight of new leaves Script.R: The R script used to perform all statistical analyses presented in the manuscript. readme.md: A plain text file explaining all column headers, units, and factor levels for each dataset.
