Salivary microbiome of pregnant women

Establishment of a symbiotic microbiome in pregnant women is important for both mother and her offspring; however, little is known about the differences in salivary microbiome between pregnant and non-pregnant women. The aim of this study was to investigate the differences in salivary bacteria between healthy pregnant and non-pregnant women. Saliva samples were collected from 35 healthy pregnant women at 35 weeks gestation and 30 healthy non-pregnant women in the menstruation period, all of whom then underwent periodontal examination.
