The function of this book is to maintain a personal description of prisoners received into custody. Information recorded includes the prisoner's name; date received into custody; prisoner number; native place; year of birth; trade or calling; religion; personal description; particular marks; offence; sentence and date of conviction; previous history; and character while undergoing sentence. The prisoner's previous history provides information about the date of the prisoner's arrival into the colony and the name of the ship. Entries under the prisoner's character while undergoing sentence include incidents of misconduct and the punishment metered out.
