Directory of Chinese Central Goverment Officials in 1944

This dataset is based on the printed personnel register Guomin zhengfu ge yuan bu hui keyuan yishang zhiyuan lu (國民政府各院部會科員以上職員錄), published in 1944 by the Printing Bureau of the Civil Service Agency of the National Government in Chongqing (國民政府文官處印鑄局). The two-volume register presents a near-complete administrative snapshot of the Chinese central government during wartime, excluding personnel from the Ministry of War—likely due to confidentiality concerns. The register includes 6,398 named officials serving in ministerial and sub-ministerial roles, covering the fifth echelon ("keyuan") and above. It provides detailed information on administrative affiliations, organizational structure, and selected assignments to local branches. The 1944 Executive Yuan encompassed 11 ministries, 2 commissions, 3 administrations (署), and one board. This structured data version provides granular information for quantitative analysis of elite composition, career trajectories, institutional hierarchy, and educational background. The dataset aligns with contemporary rank structures still used in Taiwan’s civil service. MGZF_Education.csv Records educational background of individuals who pursued higher education, both domestically and abroad. MGZF_Pos_All.csv Captures all recorded positions held by each official in 1944, including organizational hierarchy and geographical assignments.
