The elongation growth of japonica rice (cv. Nipponbare) coleoptiles was found to be inhibited specifically by a short UV-B irradiation (e.g., 10 min) that provides a fluence as low as 1.0 μmol m-2. Here we analyzed if there is a similar response at transcriptional level using rice microarray. The gene expression profile of the red-light-grown rice coleoptiles treated with low-fluence UV-B (0.065 μmol m-2 s-1, 10 min) was compared with that of non-treated controls using the Rice Expression 4x44K Microarray (two-color system). Comparisons were made at two time points: 20 and 60 min after the onset of UV-B irradiation and using three sample sets obtained on different occasions.
