Remelting of deep arc sections as a source of magmatism complexity

This thesis reveals that the deep arc roots in active margins are dynamic sites where magma evolves through multiple processes over millions of years. It shows that water-fluxed melting of old rocks produces uncommon arc anorthosites and voluminous granite. These processes also cause hybridization between intrusion and surroundings, resulting in exchanging zircon crystals and complex magma compositions. Furthermore, these deep zones can remain in near solidus conditions for over 50 million years. These prolonged processes, including remelting and hybridization, explain the chemical diversity and evolution of Earth's continental crust.
