The goal of this study was to assess the role of the AdeRS two component signal transduction system in Acinetobacter baumannii ATCC 17978 and its impact on the virulence potential of this bacterial organism. Specific gene deletion strains targeting the adeRS system were generated and compared to wildtype for a number of phenotypic in vitro assays as well as transcriptomic profiling via RNA-sequencing. Overall design: Examination of ∆adeRS mutant derivative compared to wildtype A. baumannii ATCC 17978 from bacterial cells grown in Mueller-Hinton broth which were grown to 0.6 OD600. Total RNA was isolated in triplicate samples over three biological replicates. RNA-sequencing was undertaken on pooled RNA. The overall aim was to assess the global transcriptional profile of the A. baumannii ATCC 17978 ∆adeRS two component system deletion strain in comparison to the transcriptome of wildtype A. baumannii ATCC 17978.
