Total traction energy consumption per month in MWh since 1987. Producers produce electricity in power stations. This electricity is transmitted at a high AC voltage, reaching Infrabel's traction substations. These substations convert the voltage and distribute it via the overhead line. Via pantographs, trains can draw the necessary electrical energy to power electric locomotives and/or railcars and comfort services for passenger trains such as heating, lighting and air conditioning.
