Some strains of Bacillus subtilis or other bacteria are able to form biofilm. Once the exopolymeric substances are fully formed, the resistances against mechanical or chemical means of removal pose a big problem in e.g. healthcare. In order to be able to prevent biofilm formation in the first place, the underlying mechanisms have to be understood. Therefore, to know which matrix components are the most important for the stability of the biofilm is important.
