Normally, mitochondrial DNA is transmitted from the population present in our mother's eggs at the time of fertilisation. As a result, the offspring inherits only one population of mitochondrial DNA. However, some assisted reproductive technologies, for example mitochondrial DNA supplementation nuclear transfer, can result in two populations of mitochondrial DNA being transmitted to the offspring. Here, we have performed transferred mitochondrial DNA into oocytes as they are fertilised sing our porcine model. We produced 12 offspring and analysed tissues and oocytes once they had sexual maturity by undertaking next genertaion sequencing of their whole mitochondrial genomes. We found that those generated with third party mitochondrial DNA did not transmit the third party mitochondrial DNA.
