藉著探討人工造林地造林木與入侵之天然更新闊葉樹,其造林地組成及結構在時間及空間上之變化,因此針對未來生態系經營之育林作業的功能任務導向,選定人工造林試驗地,調查人工林生長良好之針葉樹,其林分內之樹種組成、數量分布,並針對鄰近之天然闊葉林分進行相同試驗地資料調查,建立未來擬處理林分各項植群與地位之相關基本資料。同時本計畫亦探討杉木人工林最適當的之疏伐撫育方式,以促進林木生長,並於林下以符合生態原則之方法間植高經濟價值之闊葉樹種,營造混合複層林,維持生態穩定之永續經營,並探討混淆林內不同栽植距離和混淆度對林木早期生長之影響。
The relationships between afforestation sites and natural regeneration of hardwoods in spatial and temporal variation were studied at Liukuei and LieuHuaChih experimental forest. Investigation transect lines will set up within coniferous plantations which stands aged 25 years old approximately. Species competition, amounts, tree size distrubution and gap regeneration in the stand will monitor long term, whereas the same investigation terms will also conduct in natural hardwoods nearby the experimental plantation site to understand the natural regeneration potential of man-made plantations. In addition, the purpose of this project is also to identify the potential thinning strategy for Cunninghamia lanceolata in forest by establishing the multicohort and multispecies stand under Cunninghamia lanceolata, and to investigate the effects of alternate planting desityand mixed ratio on mixed plantations. Thereafter, four research branches involve in this study are conducted: (1) Study on restoring operation and natural regeneration potential of man-made plantations. (2) Effects of light environment on seedling growth and development of major hardwood species. (3) Investigation on dynamics og gap regeneration within natural and man-made stands. (4) Establishment on multicohort and multispecies stand under Cunninghamia lanceolata.
