VQVDB introduces a discrete neural representation for the VDB hierarchy. By replacing the dense voxel data in VDB’s leaf nodes with a shared, discrete latent codebook, VQVDB creates a novel, highly compressed data structure that retains the top-level spatial hierarchy of OpenVDB while leveraging the expressive power of vector quantization for fine-grained detail.
