Phytophthora colocasiae is a phytopathogenic oomycete that causes Taro leaf blight on taro (Colocasia esculenta), dasheen(Colocasia esculenta var. globulifera). Taro is a one of the important staple food crop grown in tropical Asia, Africa, South America, pacific islands and Caribbean. P. colocasiae is an understudied pathogen effecting taro production globally causing yield reduction up to 50% annually.
