Soil microbiome of long-term semi-arid cotton systems under conservation management in West Texas

Bulk soil samples from two depths (0-10 cm and 10-20 cm) and root-associated (rhizosphere) soil samples were collected from long-term experimental field sites located in Lamesa, TX and Halfway, TX and underwent 16s rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing to identify bacterial and fungal microbiomes. Long-term field treatments included different levels of irrigation (low vs. high) and different tillage (no-till vs. conventional tillage) and vegetation management (continuous cotton, cotton with a rye cover crop, or cotton in rotation with wheat) regimes.
