RiCoRé sea campaign (2020-2021) dataset

Between November 2020 and May 2021, Shom (www.shom.fr) has conducted an extensive oceanographic campaign off Ars-en-Ré beach called the RiCoRé campaign (Ré Island, France, Figure 1), deploying 39 moored stations equipped with various sensors, including acoustic wave and current profilers, single-point current meters, pressure gauges and directional wave buoys. To better understand the analysis,the measurement campaign is divided into 2 main periods LEG1 (from 11/16/2020 to 01/13/2021) and LEG2 (from 01/14/2021 to 03/31/2021), and a short period LEG3 (from 01/11/2021 to 01/15/2021) that straddles LEG1 and LEG2. LEG1 corresponds to the first acquisition period for the sensors on the foreshore, LEG2 to the second acquisition period for the sensors on the foreshore after the battery change, and LEG3 is one week with 23 additional instruments provided by university partners (Gladys, University of Montpellier, University of Anglet, LIENSs). The moorings were positioned along three main cross-shore transects named T1, T2, and T3. Transect T1 was located near the Baleines lighthouse in the northern sector, T2 in the central part of the beach, and T3 in the southern sector. T1 and T2 instruments recorded pressure, currents and water level data from the inner shelf to the upper beach during the full campaign, with seven measurement points deployed along each transect. Transect T3 was added for a focused survey over a single week during LEG3, consisting of 17 pressure sensors (labelled offshore to nearshore as PT1 to PT4, then G00 to G12) spaced approximately 20 m apart and a high-resolution velocity measurement station named UHR (Ultra High Resolution) combining three point current meters and two current profilers. Incoming wave conditions were measured offshore the T2 transect, using a Datawell directional wave buoy (T2-6). The sea campaign is described in Michaud et al., 2026, submitted to GMD.
