The invention relates to a method for continuously machining the edges of a panel (11)， preferably a furniture panel， which is coated with an edge strip. A projection on at least one side of the edge strip is machined so as to be removed after the edge strip is applied. The method is designed such that a dimensionally stable polishing compound (13) is pressed against a polishing tool (12) as the panel (11) passes through the device， said polishing tool contacting the machined edge of the edge strip so as to polish same.
