The data set contains the responses from a survey study about public attitudes towards water reuse. The invitations to participate in the study were sent via post to 1,001 randomly selected inhabitants from age 18 and above in Knvsta municipality. The invitation was sent out on 1 March to their home addresses with instructions for how to complete the survey online. A reminder was sent out on 25 March. The survey gathered 143 respondents. The survey covered questions as described below.
Basic demographic information:
• Year of birth
• Gender
• Form of housing
• Occupation
• Education level
• Monthly income
• Current water and sewage solution at their home
Attitudes to use recycled water and rainwater:
• General attitude towards using recycled water
• Recycling from different sizes of catchment areas
• Using recycled water or rainwater for different purposes
Risks, benefits, responsibility, and trust:
• Personal experience of different risks
• Personal experience of different benefits
• Opinion about responsibility for different stakeholders
• Trust in different stakeholders
Interest and knowledge:
• Personal knowledge about the technology for using recycled water and rainwater
• Interest in environmental issues
• Personal environmental awareness
• Estimated probability that these solutions will be standard in new residential areas in 50 years
Experience and concerns:
• Personal experience of using recycled water or rainwater
• Personal experiences of water shortages or poor water quality
• Personal concerns about being affected by water shortages or poor water quality in the future
Worldview and values:
• New Ecological Paradigm scale
• Value orientations (adapted Schwartz Value Survey)
The questionnaire items for all questions except for the basic demographic characteristics and an open-answer question if the respondent had anything they wanted to add were measured on a 7-point Likert-type scale.
