Report: Implementation of a monitoring project on Aloe dichotoma in the Augrabies Falls National Park.

In previous Science Management Forum meetings, it was established that a great deal of concern exists around the unacceptable levels of damage found in the Aloe dichotoma population in the West of Augrabies Falls National Park. After the initial assessment of the A. dichotoma population in Augrabies, it was decided that some form of exclusion fence (scenario 2 or 3) (Herbst & Bezuidenhout, 2010) will be erected around the densest part of the population in the West of the park. In order to measure recovery of the A.dichotoma individuals inside the proposed exclusion zone, a monitoring project has been set up. We hope to monitor rates of recovery of previously damaged individuals as well as get some data on current rates of damage that are presently occurring in the population.
