generation time effect on mutation rate

This study investigates the relationship between generation time and the rate of spontaneous mutations. Using the non-biting midge, Chironomus riparius, as a model system, we established replicate laboratory populations under conditions that select for different generation times (early vs. slow breeding groups). Whole-genome sequencing was performed on samples from multiple time points across different experimental lines to identify and quantify de novo mutations. The aim is to determine whether shorter generation times lead to an accelerated accumulation of mutations, providing insights into a fundamental driver of evolutionary change.
