Die PEKS erfasst individuelle politischer Kompetenz- und Einflusserwartungen. Die beiden Skalen (1) Internal Political Efficacy (IPE) und (2) External Political Efficacy (EPE) mit jeweils zwei Items bilden die beiden Überzeugungen der Political Efficacy ab. Reliabilität: Die Reliabilität (nach McDonalds Omega) variiert zwischen Omega = .83 und .92 (IPE) und Omega = .69 und .72 (EPE). Die Retestreliabilität der IPE lag deutlich über der der EPE. Validität: Die IPE zeigte erwartungsgemäß hohe Korrelationen mit Maßen des politischen Interesses (r = .69), der politischen Partizipation (r = .48), der allgemeinen Selbstwirksamkeit (r = 45) sowie der internalen Kontrollüberzeugung (r = .41). Theoriekonform zeigten sich bei der EPE positive Beziehungen zum Vertrauen in politische Institutionen. Moderate Effekte finden sich bzgl. mehrerer soziodemographischer und sozioökonomischer Maßen, z. B. zum Bildungsstand sowie zum Geschlecht. Neben der Beziehung zu den Partizipationsvariablen konnte auch ein Zusammenhang der IPE mit dem persönlichen Nettoeinkommen gefunden werden. Hier weist die PEKS moderate substantielle Effekte auf (r = .30). Normen: Es liegen Referenzwerte (M und SD) getrennt nach Geschlecht, Altersgruppe und Bildungsstand vor.
